About Household Energy Solutions

We only get paid if you buy. So here is when we will tell you not to.

We advise high-energy homes on battery storage and time-of-use tariffs. We do not make batteries and we do not install them, so the only way we earn anything is if an installation goes ahead. That is a conflict, and we would rather explain it than have you find it.

£200 a month

The electricity spend below which we will tell you a battery is not worth buying yet

Against a flat rate of 26.32p, a daytime rate of 28p and an overnight rate of 8p, a home spending less than this does not move enough electricity into the cheap window to pay a system back inside 7 years. Prices at 1 October 2026.

Installer partner MCS-certified for battery storageYou never pay us. The installer does, and we say what we earn.

The arrangement

How we are paid

We work out whether a battery pays for your house and, if it does, introduce you to an installer. We do not install anything. The installer pays us a percentage of the installed price when the work is finished. You pay the installer directly and never pay us. A 30 kWh system earns us more than a 20 kWh one, and the estimate will usually suggest the 30 — which is why it shows both, with the sums.

Here's the honest version: a bigger job could be worth more to whoever pays that fee, and we're the ones telling you what size to buy. Two things keep that in check.

We size to your cheap-rate window rather than your budget. A battery larger than your overnight window can fill does not earn back the difference, so we will not recommend one.

And when your recommendation arrives, the amount we will be paid on your job is shown in pounds, next to the price.

A bigger battery than your overnight window can fill.

The limits

When we will tell you not to buy

If you spend under £200 a month on electricity, the payback runs too long to justify the outlay, and we will say so rather than sell you a system.

If switching your tariff gets you most of the saving on its own, we will tell you that and charge you nothing for it. For a good number of homes that is the honest answer.

If there is no off-peak tariff where you are, or your home cannot take a battery safely, that is a no as well, and we will explain which of the two it was. If you are already on an EV or time-of-use tariff, you have the tariff saving already, so the battery has to pay for itself alone, which runs to about seven and a half years. We show that figure rather than the combined one.

Below the threshold, the sums do not work.

The people

Who you will deal with

Advisory background

Twenty years building digital products in financial services, insurance and fintech, including one business taken to exit. HES exists because the sums on home batteries are usually presented by the people selling them.

Technical background

An electrician by trade, trained in the aerospace industry and now working in green energy. Our team reads the photographs you send and coordinates the installers who do the work.

GridSmart Intelligence Group Ltd was incorporated in September 2026. The company is new — the experience behind it is not.

The boundary

What we do not do

We do not install. Your contract is with the installer partner, who holds the MCS certification, carries the workmanship responsibility and answers for the installation itself.

We introduce you, we tell you what we think the right system is, and we stay available if the two of you disagree.

The installer holds the certification and does the work.

What would your own house save?

Four questions. If the answer is that a battery is not worth it yet, that is a real answer and you will see the workings.
